Isaiah Washington Works for Gay Group GLAAD

Isaiah WashingtonGrey’s Anatomy star, Isaiah Washington, is serious about making amends to the gay community after thrusting himself into controversy after publicly uttering gay slurs. He was reportedly recruited by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to appear in their public service announcements.

It will be remembered that Washington told a room full of reporters at the Golden Globe awards that he did not call actor T.R. Knight a “f—-t,” referring back to an incident on the ‘Anatomy’ set last fall.

After the comment, several members of the cast, including Katherine Heigl , voiced displeasure at Washington. Knight, who came out publicly as a gay man last year, went onto Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show to say that Washington had indeed used the slur against him.

After the incident, Washington met with members of GLAAD to discuss his statements. “Isaiah understands he is going to be judged by more than just his apology,” GLAAD president Neil Giuliano said after the meeting. “He knows his future actions – including the genuine first step today’s meeting represents – will demonstrate his sincerity in becoming part of the solution to antigay bigotry. We welcome the opportunity to work with him in the coming months to help improve the cultural climate faced by LGBT people across this country.”

The actor also entered a rehabilitation program for a psychological evaluation in late January.
