Crack in the World

Dr. Stephen Sorensen (Dana Andrews) is doing research in geo-thermal energy; he’s convinced that if men can find a way to drill through the earth’s outer crust into the molten magma near the center, the heat can be harnessed and used to warm dwellings around the world. His assistant, Ted Rampion (Kieron Moore), is skeptical about this idea and believes that there could be dire consequences, but Sorensen boldly moves ahead with his plan, prodded by his secret knowledge that he suffers from a terminal illness and might not live long enough to undergo a longer testing period. However, Rampion’s fears soon prove well founded when Sorensen’s drilling causes a large crack in the earth which begins to rapidly expand, threatening to split the world in two with disastrous consequences. Dying Young

Hilary’s first experiences of the aftereffects of chemotherapy leave her in doubt as to whether she can handle the job, but Victor convinces her to stay, as he is beginning to see in her a reason to live. When Victor informs her that his chemo has been successfully completed, they move to a secluded home to start a life together, until cancer once again intrudes. The film is rich in its portrayal of the hardships inflicted by cancer patients and their loved ones, as well as the power of love to lend strength to endure. (1 hr. 40 min.)

The Urban Demographic

Night maintenance man Oliver Jackson (Walter Powell) is a fervent devotee of hip-hop and strongly supports the shift, but his live-in girlfriend, Rea Williams (Rhonda Rene), has a different opinion. She is the leader of the Sistas of Justice, which opposes rap music and is organizing a boycott of the station. As the couple becomes polarized on opposite sides of this battle, Oliver is increasingly attracted to Janice Green (Tiffany Haddish), the beautiful morning host of newly rechristened K-Hip. Meanwhile, Oliver’s predicament is mirrored in program director Bob Johnson’s (Rico E. Anderson) growing affections for Joy Campbell (Cat Hurston), a music connoisseur who detests rap but has a soft spot for Bob. In a heated battle between love and music, which will win out?
