BBC Show Fined for Fake Contest

Those bloody British! The BBC network of Britain was was ordered to pay an unprecedented 50,000 pound ($100,000) fine on Monday over a faked phone-in contest on its flagship children’s TV show.

“The decision to involve a child in the deception for the sake of expediency demonstrated a casual lack of regard for the welfare of that child,” the regulator Ofcom said.

Almost 40,000 children called the “Blue Peter” premium rate phone line on November 27 last year in a competition to win a toy. They were asked to identify a character from a soap opera from a picture of his feet and an accompanying clue.

But when a technical glitch meant no winning entrant could be selected, a member of the production team asked a girl visiting the studio with her parent to pose as a winning caller.

She was given the correct answer and put on air.

Another member of the public visiting the studio on the same day saw what happened and blew the whistle in March this year.

The BBC said it regretted that Ofcom found it necessary to impose a fine. It was the first time Ofcom had imposed a financial penalty on the public service broadcaster.

Sex and The City, It’s a Movie!

Sex and the City The Movie The foursome of Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Catrall, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis has all agreed to do Sex and The City movie. The revolutionary TV series that catapulted sex talk and nudity on the small screen. It was a hit, too.

The project is set to begin shooting in the fall. Longtime series executive producer Michael Patrick King will direct the film from his own script and serve as producer, along with Parker and series creator Darren Star.

Plans for a movie were first revealed by HBO in early 2004, months before the show ended its six-season run.

But the project stalled, according to show business newspaper Daily Variety, when Cattrall sought greater script control and a salary closer to that of Parker, who was more highly paid than her co-stars because she was a co-executive producer of the series.

Variety said Cattrall ultimately was won over with a sweetened offer that included a series deal with HBO.

“Sex and the City,” based on the work of best-selling author Candace Bushnell, was the first cable series to win an Emmy.

Pop diva Christina Aguilera and husband Jordan Bratman is expecting their first child. After weeks of speculation, Aguilera finally broke her silence and announced that she’s indeed preggers!

Aguilera and her music-marketing exec other half swapped vows in November 2005 in Napa Valley, California. The duo celebrated their first anniversary in Dublin in the midst of Aguilera’s Back to Basics tour in support of her platinum-selling double-disc album of the same name.

The singer has also been tapped to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year along with fellow musicians George Harrison, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Brooks & Dunn and Ricky Martin.

Lindsay Lohan Turns 21

Lindsay Lohan on rehab Party girl Lindsay Lohan quitely marked her 21st birthday getting sober in rehab instead of the initially planned wild booze party at Pure in Las Vegas. Although she did took a break from her Promises sessions to be with her family in LA.

Lohan’s mother and siblings were photographed arriving at Los Angeles International Airport over the weekend for what her mother had said would be a family celebration. And on Monday, she was seen jogging on the beach during a break from her stay at Promises rehab center in Malibu.

Last week Beverly Hills police forwarded a report to the District Attorney’s office citing Lohan was on drugs during the night of her car crashing accident on May 26. The DA said they are still gathering evidence before formally charging the actress of any crime.

Police said they found a substance tentatively identified as “a usable amount of cocaine” in connection with the accident.

Looks like La Lohan could be in serious trouble…
